Biggthumpup Homemade Puppy Formula Recipe!! (can also be used for frail/sick adults etc)

this is a tried and true recipe!! i have used it multiple times with very sick/frail pups (including adults who may be underweight) and it really works -- but nothing will work if they have worms!! so de-worming of course is key

This recipe is to be used as a supplement - but can also be used to bottle feed infant pups if required. No need for store bought puppy formulas - they are not as high in calorie as this anyhow!

this recipe has approx 11 calories PER CC!!!!

1 can evaporated milk
1/2-3/4 can distilled water (or baby water or boiled water-cooled)
1 cup plain yogurt (NOT fat free)
1 tbsp Karo syrup (corn syrup)
1 egg yolk

(i never really measure)

mix with wire wisk - don't blend it as you don't want it to get bubbly.

warm to body temperature

FEEDING:

Feed 1cc per OZ ( or 1 tbsp per pound) of body weight every 3 hrs - is the general rule of thumb but a little more will never hurt.

*For infant pups: either use a syringe and gently put into mouth as they suck (do NOT force this as you can cause harm as it can cause asphyxiation/choking) - or use a baby bottle (much safer - but be careful that they don't decide to choose that over mama)

*For older or just weaning pups:
mix with baby rice cereal to thicken it and get them used to a thicker consistency. then graduate to crushed high quality puppy chow mixed with the formula.

*If pup is older or for adult - mix with high quality puppy chow.

store in fridge and warm when needed

Any questions - you are welcome to email/pm or call/text me

Out of curiosity, what's the point of using corn syrup in this? Is it just for taste? If so, could you use honey or agave nectar?

Trying to fatten Jake up but he still has diarrhea. Is this ok to give him? And do dogs normally gobble this up? Thanks!

yes. you can make it and just put some on his food. they love it but when dogs are that skinny you need to take it slow.
the yogurt will give him probiotics to help with his belly problems.
are there any creepy crawlies in his stool?

for diarrhea/upset stomach you can also try this:

No creepy crawlies...just really watery poop most of the time. It looks like it is starting to harden up here and they're and goes back to mush. Poor guy. And he has awful gas. I am going to the grocery store tonight (meant to go yesterday) and I will get it for him. THANKS!!

his watery poop/gas is probably just his body adjusting to the food and new environment. this formula won't help that, but it will help put some weight on him.
what are you feeding him?

Ok...making the puppy mash today. Im wondering if I should leave out the karo syrup since he still has diarrhea?? Its pretty bad still and he is pooping 3-4 times a day. I took him out at 4am to poop too last night. His little butt is starting to look red. I really need to help it go away. Also...he is still itching....any way I can take him for a scrape? I can pay for it upfront...just curious how long it will be before I am reimbursed?

Thanks!!!
